Pop-up video
Does anyone else but me remember when tv channels like MTV and VH1 had music videos? I do. I specifically remember watching Pop-up video, where they would show music videos and up would pop up facts about that certain artists singing, the production, how much was made, accidents, etc.
Believe it or not this photo was probably in this quality back then, watching it on a tiny tv screen in the late 80s early 90s. Also this is from one of my favorite songs, "Come on Eileen". [Photo from People.com]
Moments like this defined my childhood, watching everything from the classic hits to hearing what new music was coming out. That's where my Dad always came in handy.
He always had to have the latest trending music, whether it was Jock Jams, Britney Spears, Ace of Base, you name it. He had it, and still has it.
I remember driving in my Dad's '84 Fiero listening to Ace of Base belting out "I saw the sign" on our way to Media Play. If any of these things don't sound familiar to you then you obviously didn't grow up in the early 90's. Traveling to Southgate/Taylor area in Michigan was something that we frequently did.
My Dad was a media buff, having the latest gaming equipment, movies, music.. we had it all. Our house was definitely the fun spot to go to whenever my friends wanted to hangout.
I read this post to my Dad and this is what he had to say about it:
