Gibraltar Trade Center
One of the
special moments I remember from my childhood was going to the Gibraltar Trade
Center with my mom and dad. The trip was only about a half hour from our house
and we would spend the day there, and usually get some food on the way home.
One of my favorite things to get while I was there were marbles.
Now you might be thinking, "Marbles?" What
kid wants marbles? Me. I collected them and put them in this huge box with a
flip out lid and I would try to find unique ones every time I went, so I would
not have too many multiples. I don't know why I collected them at the time,
there wasn't a specific game I played or anything.
The other reason I liked the Gibraltar Trade Center
was the random things people always had for sale. I specifically remember a
whole section for pets: dogs, cats, lizards, spiders, you name it, they had it.
I never bought any, but I loved to look at them.
I think another reason we went there was because it
was huge, it took us at least half a day to get through it even if we didn't
buy much, we still took the time to walk through the aisles and see what
everyone had for sale.
They tore Gibraltar Trade Center down in 2015 after
being closed for a little over a year. They have since rebuilt over it another
business and its been forgotten, but for me it was a staple in my childhood experience.
I read my dad my blog post and here is his response:
