What decade is this?

My Dad keeps the things he loves, doesn't matter if it's 30 years old, if it works, he keeps it. Some of these things have lessened over the years, especially after moving multiple times. My friends can attest to the fact that my Dad has some of the strangest things that he's kept for years and years.

He has a motorized CD turner, a push of the button turns it around to where ever you need without having to stand, bend and look. Giant old school speakers, that in my lifetime I don't remember him using-- they may just be for decoration.

Now this is one of my favorite things because I've never seen anything like it. It is a working lamp that also holds CD's. Whoever would think of such a thing? My Dad's dedication for having furniture that is functional yet fashionable is commendable to say the least.

Fiber optic flowers that turn on from the side, you wind it up like a music box and it lights up around the flowers. It gets really hot, and I burned myself once trying to turn it on. I think it's really cool though and his parents owned it, so it holds a special memory for us.

The pen holder itself is from the 90s at least because he had it when I was a child. It has the original pens, paperclips, tape, stapler, etc. it came with. The other pens he's put into it are probably just as old, half of them don't write. I tell him every time I try to use one, "Dad, this doesn't work?" and I get a, "It's okay, just put it back."

Wh-why? (Insert shrug here). My Dad is a unique character to say the least. I read him my thoughts on his "collection" and this is what he had to say:
